Finite Proofs for Infinitary Formulas

چکیده

Recent work has shown that the infinitary logic of hereand-there is closely related to the input language of the ASP grounder gringo. A formal system axiomatizing that logic exists, but a proof in that system may include infinitely many formulas. In this note, we define a correspondence between the validity of infinitary formulas in the logic of here-and-there and the provability of formulas in some finite deductive systems. On the basis of this correspondence, we can use finite proofs to justify the validity of infinitary formulas.

Proving infinitary formulas

The infinitary propositional logic of here-and-there is important for the theory of answer set programming in view of its relation to strongly equivalent transformations of logic programs. We know a formal system axiomatizing this logic exists, but a proof in that system may include infinitely many formulas. In this note we describe a relationship between the validity of infinitary formulas in ...

A PROPOSITIONAL p-ADIC PROBABILITY LOGIC

We present the p-adic probability logic LpPP based on the paper [5] by A. Khrennikov et al. The logical language contains formulas such as P=s(α) with the intended meaning “the probability of α is equal to s", where α is a propositional formula. We introduce a class of Kripke-like models that combine properties of the usual Kripke models and finitely additive p-adic probabilities. We propose an...

Least and Greatest Fixed Points in Ludics

Various logics have been introduced in order to reason over (co)inductive specifications and, through the Curry-Howard correspondence, to study computation over inductive and coinductive data. The logic μMALL is one of those logics, extending multiplicative and additive linear logic with least and greatest fixed point operators. In this paper, we investigate the semantics of μMALL proofs in (co...

Uniform Versions of Infinitary Properties in Banach Spaces

In functional analysis it is of interest to study the following general question: Is the uniform version of a property that holds in all Banach spaces also valid in all Banach spaces? Examples of affirmative answers to the above question are the host of proofs of almost-isometric versions of well known isometric theorems. Another example is Rosenthal’s uniform version of Krivine’s Theorem. Usin...

Stable models for infinitary formulas with extensional atoms

The definition of stable models for propositional formulas with infinite conjunctions and disjunctions can be used to describe the semantics of answer set programming languages. In this note, we enhance that definition by introducing a distinction between intensional and extensional atoms. The symmetric splitting theorem for first-order formulas is then extended to infinitary formulas and used ...
